🌊"Waves of Change" Hackathon Program

Tourism Stakeholders (Public, Associative and Private)

For several years, the tourism sector has been undergoing profound transformations, driven by changing traveller expectations and growing awareness of the environmental and social impacts of their choices.

Faced with increasing demand for responsible, authentic, and territory-based experiences, tourism stakeholders are now confronted with a dual challenge: diversifying their offers and activities while developing truly sustainable tourism. It is no longer enough to promote commitments through marketing messages; the challenge is to implement concrete, consistent, and measurable practices capable of addressing today’s sustainable development challenges and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In this context, guides, operators, and tourism organisations have a major asset: privileged access to the field (beaches, lagoons, forests...) and a direct connection with territories and their communities.

Yet, this daily presence remains largely underused.

To overcome this limitation, participatory science offers a powerful approach. The Participatory Science Hackathon "Waves of Change" offers dedicated modules for sustainable tourism stakeholders, specifically designed to address these challenges.

As a sustainable tourism stakeholder, join these sessions and leave with:

  • Methods to integrate participatory science protocols into your tours, visits, and activities
  • Techniques to transform your visitors into active contributors to scientific data collection (biodiversity, oceans, natural environments)
  • Ideas for developing a distinctive tourism offer based on genuine and verifiable scientific contributions
  • Case studies and feedback from tourism operators who have already integrated these approaches into their activities
  • Insights into current visitor expectations regarding responsible tourism
  • An exchange network with other sustainable tourism professionals and stakeholders involved in the protection of natural environments
  • A direct overview of the projects developed during the Hackathon at the final showcase, which can serve as models for your own initiatives
