Applications — Careers, Impact Projects & Participatory Science

Step and Go supports Participatory Science Hackathon-Training partner organizations in identifying people, skills and projects that may contribute to or develop their activities.

Here you can apply for one or more professional fields, submit an impact or participatory science project you would like to develop, or express your interest in joining an existing project.

Independently from your application, you may also choose to participate in a Participatory Science Hackathon-Training to develop your skills, move a project forward, or contribute to the creation of new activities and jobs.

Applications for partner organizations

Step and Go works with the partner organizations involved in the different Participatory Science Hackathon-Training sessions to identify and introduce profiles that may match their needs, projects and recruitment opportunities.

These partners operate across a wide range of fields: scientific research, participatory science, environment, biodiversity, climate, education, project-based learning, facilitation, tourism, sports and outdoor activities, project management, entrepreneurship, business development, impact finance, communication, international cooperation and territorial development.

As one person may have several skills or several possible career paths, you may apply for more than one professional field.

Main professional fields

  • Research, science and innovation — researchers, scientists, engineers, research managers and directors, analysts, scientific programme managers, participatory science, innovation and related roles.
  • Environment, climate, biodiversity and ecological transition — careers related to biodiversity, water, climate, conservation, adaptation, regeneration, sustainable development and ecological transition.
  • Education, pedagogy, training and sociocultural facilitation — facilitators, science educators, mediators, trainers, teachers, coordinators and educational managers.
  • Tourism, travel, stays, sports and outdoor activities — guides and sports guides, trip leaders, stay managers and directors, tourism production, travel agencies, ecotourism, scientific tourism and regenerative tourism.
  • Leadership, coordination, project management and organizational management — project managers, coordinators, operations managers, programme directors, centre directors, nonprofit and NGO managers and other organizational leadership roles.
  • Entrepreneurship, business development, partnerships, funding and impact finance — entrepreneurs, business developers, partnership managers, fundraising professionals, business-model development and impact finance.

What about the Training for Development Hackathon?

Participatory Science Hackathon-Training bring participants and organizations together around real projects to learn by doing: understanding a need, building or improving a project, bringing different skills together and moving a solution towards implementation.

They can be valuable for people in very different situations.

You may be new to participatory science or project-based learning and want to acquire these skills.

You may instead be already experienced and want to go further, discover new methods, work across disciplines or apply your expertise to new projects.

You may also bring your own impact or participatory science project and use the Hackathon to develop it.

Or you may participate without your own project and join an existing project where your skills can make a difference.

A skill for your CV — and a way to create

The value of the Hackathon is therefore not limited to finding a job.

It can help you develop and demonstrate skills that are valuable throughout your professional career, strengthen your CV, evolve in your profession or take on greater responsibilities.

But it can also help you create your own job or activity: develop a project, create a new offer within an organization, launch a business, nonprofit organization or initiative, or join forces with others to build a new project together.

Application and Hackathon: two independent paths

Your professional application and any participation in a Hackathon are two separate processes.

You can apply for professional opportunities that Step and Go presents to its partners without participating in a Hackathon.

Likewise, participating in a Hackathon is neither a condition for applying nor a promise or guarantee of recruitment.

The question included in the application form simply allows us to know whether, independently from your application, you would also like to receive information about upcoming opportunities to participate in Participatory Science Hackathon-Training.
